Answers
  1. Is Veterans & Military Families for Progress a partisan group?
No, we are non-partisan. Our goals are progressive, regardless of the party affiliation of our members.

  2. How did Veterans & Military Families for Progress start?
The initial seed of VMFP comes for the Veterans for Kerry group from the 2004 presidential election. This does not mean that the group is Democrat in nature. There were card-carrying members from many parties active in the formation of VMFP.

  3. Why did VMFP start?
We are filling a need in the veterans community for active involvement in politics. We will educate voters, politicians and the general public, and advocate for veteran and military family issues.

  4. Is VMFP a veterans' service organization?
No, though those VSOs serve a very honorable and needed function. We are a political organization, chartered to be of service to veterans, service members and their families - by working for their benefits and rights through politics from the grassroots level up to the national level.

  5. If you are veterans, why do you have military families in your name?
We recognize that no veteran becomes a veteran alone. There is always some family member supporting us somewhere. We also recognize that the active duty military cannot advocate for themselves, so we wish to recognize and welcome the family members to speak for them.

  6. Is VMFP against war?
VMFP has stated in our Principles of Unity the following:
VMFP Oppose's war unless absolutely necessary to protect our borders and our citizens, and then only as last resort with adherence to constitutional requirements for war and accountability of government officials.
  7. Do you have a board?
We have an 11-person Board of Directors to govern and guide this organization in its formation. The members are from many different states, from coast to coast; women and men.

  8. How do I download an application form for an 85 year old woman WWII vet who does not have email, but wants to join?
You can download, print out, complete and mail a paper application.

  9. What kind of organization are you and how are you different from other veterans organizations?
VMFP is a legally filed C4 in the District of Columbia. We are different from other veterans organizations in that this allows us educate, advocate, and engage in the political process. The only thing we can't do is give money to a candidate as an organization. Other veterans organizations are C3 & C19, so they are restricted from being actively involved in the political process - such as endorsing and campaining for a candidate. Our legal structure is very similar to how unions operate.
